Alison struggles with the death of her mother, as the Liars try to navigate through her new lie.

Hanna’s new interest in crime novels helps her to come up with a plan to try and figure out whose body is in Ali’s grave. While Hanna is on her hunt, Spencer is working overtime to decipher the stories in Ali’s diary which she hopes will reveal the identity of Ali’s mystery man. But with both girls hot on the trail, will their work lead them straight into “A’s” path? Meanwhile, Aria is upset with the new friend Mike has made and Emily’s dad is concerned about her behavior.

Spencer’s numerous sleepless nights with the help of prescription pills start to take a toll on her as her hunt for Ali and much needed answers continues. As she pours over newly acquired information, her world view takes a black and white turn. Now teleported into the world of 1940’s Film Noir, Spencer tries to come up with the answers she and her friends have been desperately looking for. But in this world of fedora hats, switchboards and 15 cent coffee, can Spencer finally put all of the pieces together that lay in front of her?

The night before the annual Rosewood Charity Fashion Show, Allison’s mother reappears in town and requests that the remaining girls model in the show in honor of her deceased daughter.

Jenna’s extravagant birthday party seems to be too good to be true and Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer think something else might be up – especially when it turns out that Garrett is getting a pass out of jail to visit his ailing mother on the same night. The timing can’t just be a coincidence; the Liars are convinced it all has to do something with “A.” With Emily getting an insiders’ view working the party, Aria working the crowd as a party-goer and Spencer staked out at the hospital, what could go wrong? The answer is – everything.

Meanwhile, Hanna’s wallowing through heartbreak leads her to a shocking discovery.

The girls are not feeling merry at Christmas because Spencer’s murder charge looms over them. Things improve though after they see an opportunity to gather evidence to clear her name.

Hanna learns more about Caleb’s foster family, while the other Liars deal with the resolution and closure of the news about Ian.

Aria signs up for a college pottery class to get closer to Ezra, Emily lies to her mother about her swimming scholarship status, and Spencer spies on Alison’s older brother, who has just moved back into Rosewood.

While new discoveries are made in the investigation of Charlotte’s murder, the truth begins to emerge about the Liars’ personal lives. Spencer is concerned to learn her mother is keeping a secret of her own. Aria confesses to Liam how deeply she’s involved with Ezra’s book. Ali admits that she and Elliott are more than just friends. Mona reveals where her true allegiances lie. Caleb, Spencer and Hanna deal with the complications of new relationships.

Meanwhile, Emily and Hanna each receive shocking threats that elevate the seriousness of the situation.

Emily’s relationship with Paige has been anything but easy, but she finally feels like their relationship is going in the right direction. So when Spencer comes to her with a sordid tale about Paige’s history with Alison, Emily is not ready to heed her friend’s warnings. With Spencer knowing Paige’s violent past and this new information about a blood feud between Alison and Paige right before Alison disappeared, she can’t stand by to let one of her best friends get close to a potential enemy. But will Spencer cross a line that Emily can’t forgive in her attempt to prove to Emily who Paige really is?

Meanwhile, Aria feels she has to help Ezra move on from his past if their relationship is to move forward, but what she finds may be more than she expected.

As the heat is turned up on the suspicions surrounding Spencer, the girls must come to the reality that they aren’t the only ones hiding secrets in Rosewood. Spencer remembers something that happened the night of the murder.

Now that Hanna has shared with Aria, Emily and Spencer that she has Ali’s diary, the girls hope it can shed light on their many questions. But with the diary full of stories that have been coded to cover the truth, each girl must take a turn to figure out which stories are about them. Hopefully when they are through they will find the story that could finally give them answers to who has been going after Ali. But with each story more personal than the last, do Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer really want to admit which story is about them? Meanwhile, Spencer is suspicious of her father’s latest interaction with Mrs. DiLaurentis.

Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer feel trapped and search desperately for a way out of a bad situation.

Rosewood High’s “Truth-Up Day,” is not just an opportunity for the students of the school to air their grievances and stop bullying, but also a chance for Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer to get answers to some burning questions. Spencer looks to find answers on what is going on between Jason and her father when Jason shows up as a chaperone; Aria continues to question Holden on what exactly he is up to during their “date nights,” and Hanna tries to figure out the latest situation with Kate. But will the girls be ready for what they find out when shocking truths are revealed?

Meanwhile, Emily gets help from an unlikely source to get back on the Rosewood swim team.

Alison attempts to regain her position as leader of the gang upon her return to Rosewood High.

Emily is contacted by a college swim team recruiter. While the Liars struggle with being separated, Hanna doesn’t know who to reach out to when her father shows up in Rosewood unexpectedly.

A summer has passed since Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer found out about Mona being ‘A’ and Maya’s death…. Each of the four girls spent their summer in different ways – Aria taking a photography class, Spencer taking college courses at Hollis, Hanna taking cooking classes with Caleb and Emily building houses in Haiti. But… with post-traumatic stress, anger and the acquisition of more secrets the four Liars are anything but fine. Now all back together and coming upon the second anniversary of Alison’s disappearance, the girls find themselves back on the defensive when a shocking event rocks Rosewood.

The girls may have gotten out of the Dollhouse but what happened to them during their time of captivity has lasting effects. With worried loved ones watching over them, the PLLs are home and trying to heal, with not much success. Even with suspected tormentor Andrew in custody, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer fear they are far from safe.

Meanwhile, Alison must deal with her past indiscretions and her notoriety around Rosewood.

As “A” continues to play games, the stakes are raised higher as each girl is forced into difficult positions. Aria starts to seriously contemplate her relationship with Ezra as his new family situation continues to eat away at her. Hanna is thrown into the middle of Caleb’s family drama when Jamie’s shady past comes back to haunt him. Emily is determined to prove Spencer wrong in hopes of helping her, but she might not be ready for what she finds. In the end, will the Liars be able to get out of their sticky situations or will “A” have them right where he/she wants them? Meanwhile, Spencer searches for answers about Mona’s time in Radley Sanitarium.
